Access Region Tool

The Access Region Tool supports the user to create a Design Space dependant on an assembly and all the different geometries present in this assembly. In this assembly individual pats are selected to be consolidated and a Design Space containing all these parts can be easily created with the Design Space Tool. This Design Space often includes areas of the assembly that are occupied by parts which won’t be consolidated but nevertheless are part in the overall assembly. These parts are used to create void spaces in the Design Space. But just the removal of these parts is not enough because they have to be installed in the assembly or maintenance work need to be done. Therefore, Access Regions are necessary and need to be created.

The Access Region Tool enables exactly this freedom with its two methods: Extrude Face following the normal and extrude a cross section following the normal.

  • With the first method simple geometries can be extruded by selecting the considered face and extruding it along its normal. A scaling factor can be set as well to directly include a Clearance Region around this Access Region.

  • The second method is the extrusion of a cross section of a solid. Especially more complicated geometries can be easily extruded this way and the accessibility is enabled. Again, a scaling factor can be entered to allow for more space and freedom for later installation or maintenance work as a Clearance Region.
