Strut / Rib Density
Strut Density
A distinction between different Strut Densities can be made with the three settings Dense, Medium and Sparse. The settings influence the design of the optimisation result.
The option Dense provides results in which a lot of small struts are being created or very thin shell structures.
While the option Sparse creates results with just a few thicker struts or also shell structures depending on the Complexity set for this model. This result is often the most lightweight design of the three options but since this is not the only relevant criteria different designs should be generated to utilize the full capacity of Generative Design.
In between the setting Medium can be chosen which is a compromise between the two extrema and is always a good starting option for a new optimization model. An example for the different settings is shown in the images.
Rib Density
The Rib Density together with the Complexity setting defines the design of the optimization result specific for a Casting optimization. The option Dense results in more pockets and thus in more ribs. The option Sparse creates less pockets and ribs and reduces the material during the optimization less aggressive. A middle way is the option Medium.
