The Non-Design Space Tool is an additional tool in case the Interface geometries are quite complicated and the Interface Tool cannot be used to create the according Non-Design thickness.
The geometry has to be prepared beforehand and cells need to be created which represent the Non-Design Space thickness. These cells can subsequently be selected in the tool.
To make sure the functional faces of the Non-Design Spaces are kept during the optimisation two options are available:
Create Interfaces for all functional surfaces of this Non-Design Space to make sure these faces are preserved during the optimisation. Therefore, it is valid to enter values of 0 as Non-Design Space thickness in the Interface Tool.
Activate the automatic Non-Design Growth. Please have a look here on how to activate this option.
Boolean merging of geometries to receive cells:
These cells can be created with geometry tools like Split Tool or with a Boolean merge operation if multiple solids already exist. When using the Boolean merge operation, the “merge solids as cells” option has to be activated in order to create the cells in one solid. These cells can then be selected as Non-Design Spaces with the Direct Method in the Non-Design Space Tool.
