Intersections between optimization results and the Design spaces are needed to create the final, manufacturable design. This ensures all functional sharp edges are available and the generative designed part is inside the boundary limits. An intersection can be done directly in Apex.

Workflow for an intersection with Apex:

  1. The final optimiztion result needs to be exported as an STL-file directly from the Postprocessing. We recommend exporting binary STL-files.

  2. The exported STL can be imported back into the same Apex Generative Design project. Please check your Geometry Import/Export settings. A Feature and Vertex angle of 40 degrees is a good value and should be default.

  3. With the Geometry Edit Tools a Boolean intersection with the Design space and the imported optimization result can be done.
